該基因編碼的蛋白質(zhì)屬于跨膜超家族，也被稱(chēng)為四聚氰胺家族。這些成員大多是細(xì)胞表面蛋白，其特征是存在四個(gè)疏水結(jié)構(gòu)域。這些蛋白質(zhì)介導(dǎo)信號(hào)轉(zhuǎn)導(dǎo)事件，在調(diào)節(jié)細(xì)胞發(fā)育、活化、生長(zhǎng)和運(yùn)動(dòng)中發(fā)揮作用。編碼的蛋白是一種已知與整合素復(fù)合的細(xì)胞表面糖蛋白。它可能作為血小板活化標(biāo)記物。這種蛋白質(zhì)的缺乏與Hermansky-Pudlak綜合征有關(guān)。這個(gè)基因也與腫瘤的發(fā)展有關(guān)。選擇性剪接導(dǎo)致多個(gè)轉(zhuǎn)錄變異編碼不同的蛋白質(zhì)亞型。
